2019 ADVICE on MAMMOGRAMS

2019 Advice on Mammograms: If you have had a close relative with breast cancer, a sister, first cousin or aunt, you should be screen earlier than someone without a family history. Advocate for your mammogram and or sonogram with your gynecologist. They will have to provide your insurance company with an argument to cover the earlier scans.

If you still have periods, you may be advised to wait for a certain point in your cycle to have a mammogram or sonogram. If you have found a lump, I would advocate for NOT waiting for this time in the cycle since they already know 1 thing they are looking at.

There are a variety of alternative breast diagnostic scans available now, but they are not commonly is use. See reference section for more information.
